Helmet

A helmet is the central component of protective gear for any lacrosse player. The most common box lacrosse helmet is a CSA approved hockey helmet (can be found in all sporting stores), along with a CSA approved lacrosse cage. There are three helmet options for a lacrosse player to use:

  1. NOCSAE approved field lacrosse helmet
  2. CSA approved hockey helmet and CSA approved hockey facemask combo
  3. CSA approved hockey helmet and CSA approved lacrosse facemask combo
Gait Lacrosse Gloves

Gloves

Gloves are a fundamental piece of protective gear in box lacrosse, designed to protect the hands and fingers while providing the dexterity needed to handle the stick effectively. They allow players to grip their sticks firmly while minimizing the risk of injury from checks, slashes, and falls.

STICK

Sticks are typically sold as separate components: the head and the shaft. The head, which is the business end of the stick, is designed to hold the lacrosse ball and is available in various shapes and materials to suit different playing styles. The shaft, the handle of the stick, is usually made from lightweight metals or composites for strength and durability. This separate setup allows players to customize their sticks, choosing a head and shaft combination that best fits their preferences for performance, weight, and flexibility.

Lacrosse Pad

Shoulder Pads

In box lacrosse, shoulder pads provide vital protection from the high-impact collisions and fast movements that define the game. Constructed with a mix of lightweight and durable materials, they offer reinforced coverage for the shoulders, chest, and back. These pads are designed to maximize mobility while ensuring players stay well-protected during physical play.

Lacrosse Pads

BiCEP Pads

Bicep pads play a crucial role in a box lacrosse player’s protective gear, offering defense for the upper arms against slashes, checks, and collisions. Positioned around the biceps, these pads absorb impacts while allowing players to maintain full range of motion, preserving their speed and agility. Constructed from lightweight, flexible materials with added padding for extra protection, they provide comfort without restricting movement. Bicep pads are especially important for box lacrosse players of all ages, as the bicep area is frequently targeted during the game.

ELBOW PADS

Elbow pads are built to protect a box lacrosse player’s elbows and forearms from the physical impacts of checks, falls, and collisions. Designed to offer both protection and flexibility, these pads allow players to move easily while minimizing the risk of injury. Typically made with a combination of hard plastic and foam padding, they provide cushioning and absorb shocks. It’s important to note that many elbow pads made for field lacrosse may not offer the same level of protection required for box lacrosse.

Kidney Pads

KIDNEY PADS

Kidney pads are designed to safeguard the lower back and sides from hits and slashes. Positioned around the player’s kidneys, these pads help absorb impacts from checks, falls, and collisions, reducing the risk of injury to this vulnerable area. Made with a combination of lightweight foam and hard-shell materials, kidney pads provide comfort and mobility without sacrificing protection.
