SAINT JOHN, N.B. — The Akwesasne Thunder are Founders Cup champions. Akwesasne went a perfect 7-0 in Saint John, finishing the tournament with an 11-4 win over the Seneca WarChiefs in the championship game.
The Thunder jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period and added seven more goals in the second to take control. Alex Delormier and Tysen Sunday led the way offensively in the final, each scoring three goals and adding an assist.
Goaltender Xavier Delormier was named tournament MVP, anchoring the Thunder throughout their Founders run. Delormier finished the tournament with a .901 save percentage and a 4.10 goals-against average, while Akwesasne also had several players among the tournament’s scoring leaders. Tysen Sunday finished second in tournament scoring with 35 points, while Alex Delormier added 29 points and Bleyton Hopps-Thompson recorded 26.

Akwesasne’s championship run capped a strong week of Junior B lacrosse in Saint John, with teams from across the country competing for the Founders Cup and showcasing the depth and talent of Canada’s next generation of box lacrosse players.
