Lacrosse Canada Announces Key Official Appointments for the 2025 Canada Summer Games
Oshawa, ON - Lacrosse Canada is proud to announce the appointments of Mack Abbott as Official in Charge (OIC) for Men's Lacrosse, Angie Reid as OIC for Women's Lacrosse, and Steve O’Shaughnessy and Bill Fox as evaluators for the 2025 Canada Summer Games. These experienced and dedicated officials will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of officiating and fair play during the Games.
Mack Abbott - Official in Charge, Men’s Lacrosse
Mack Abbott will serve as the Official in Charge (OIC) for Men’s Lacrosse at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Abbott began his officiating career in 2016 following the conclusion of his playing career and is now in his 10th season officiating box lacrosse. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of the top officials in the sport. Currently a certified Level 4 Official, Abbott officiates at junior to major levels across Ontario, with extensive experience in both box and field lacrosse. In 2021, he was hired as part of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) officiating staff, where he has continued to demonstrate excellence in his craft. Abbott’s impressive officiating resume includes major events such as the Gold Medal Game at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, and he most recently officiated the first-ever women’s gold medal game at the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships in Utica. His playing experience in Jr A, Jr B, Sr B, and CUFLA lacrosse has allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the game from multiple perspectives, enhancing his ability to manage and officiate high-level competitions. Abbott’s leadership, skill, and dedication to the sport will be integral to the success of the Men’s Lacrosse competition at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Angie Reid - Official in Charge, Women’s Lacrosse
Angie Reid has been appointed as the Official in Charge (OIC) for Women’s Lacrosse at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Reid’s journey into officiating began in 2018 when she transitioned from being a lacrosse parent to a passionate official, eager to support her children’s involvement in the sport while furthering her own understanding of the game. In just a few years, Reid has made a significant impact in the officiating community. She is currently a World Lacrosse Level 1 official and has officiated numerous prestigious events, including national championships and the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships. Reid’s versatility in lacrosse is evident as she has officiated across all disciplines, including box, field, and women’s lacrosse. Her commitment to the sport extends beyond officiating; she is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of lacrosse officials and contributing to the development of officiating programs that enhance the professionalism and quality of the sport. In addition to her work on the field, Reid is a proud mother of four children, all of whom play and/or officiate lacrosse, balancing her family life with her growing career in officiating. Her passion for lacrosse, commitment to excellence, and leadership qualities make her the perfect choice to oversee Women’s Lacrosse at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Steve O’Shaughnessy - Evaluator, 2025 Canada Summer Games
Steve O’Shaughnessy is a highly respected figure in the lacrosse officiating community, bringing over 33 years of experience in Box, Men’s Field, and Sixes lacrosse. O’Shaughnessy has officiated at all levels, from grassroots competitions to National and World Championships in both Box and Men’s Field Lacrosse. Known for his expertise in game management, rules enforcement, and communication, O’Shaughnessy ensures fair play while fostering a safe and competitive environment for athletes. Beyond his on-field contributions, O’Shaughnessy is passionate about developing the next generation of lacrosse referees. He currently serves as the Chair of the Lacrosse Canada Officiating Program, where he plays an instrumental role in creating educational programs that enhance the quality and professionalism of lacrosse officiating. His leadership and dedication to the sport have made him a valuable asset to the lacrosse community, and his experience will provide invaluable insight as an evaluator at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Bill Fox - Evaluator, 2025 Canada Summer Games
Bill Fox is a highly accomplished lacrosse official whose career spans several decades, marked by a series of prestigious achievements and accolades. Inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2024), the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2022), and the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame (2021), Fox has built a distinguished reputation as one of the top officials in the sport. He has officiated every major lacrosse championship in both Box and Field lacrosse, including national and world championships, and has played a key role in officiating at the professional level. In addition to his exceptional officiating career, Fox was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the Sports Officials Canada Allen G. Rae Builder Award in 2010 for his contributions to the sport. As a Master Clinician and Supervisor for Lacrosse Canada, Fox has dedicated much of his career to educating and mentoring the next generation of officials. His leadership roles with Lacrosse Canada and World Lacrosse, combined with his vast experience in both Box and Field lacrosse, make him a highly qualified evaluator for the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Fox’s legacy in lacrosse officiating continues to influence the sport’s growth and development, and his expertise will be invaluable in shaping the officiating landscape at the Games.
