Ottawa, ON—Lacrosse Canada has announced the 12 players who will represent Canada in week two at The World Games 2022. The eleventh edition of the multi-sport games was rescheduled from 2021 and will take place in Birmingham, Alabama, USA from July 7 to 17, 2022.
The new Sixes lacrosse discipline will be used, following its introduction in May 2021. Canada first participated in Sixes lacrosse at the Super Sixes showcase held in Sparks, M.D. in October 2021, ending the event with a 3-1 record. Many of the players will head to Birmingham from the Women’s World Championships held the weeks prior in Towson, MD.
“We’re excited to have put this team together in a discipline we’re fond of, and have had some experience in,” said head coach Scott Teeter.
“We have a great balance of veterans and new players—the faces of Canada lacrosse like Dana Dobbie, Erica Evans, Lydia Sutton, and Kay Morissette, but also lots of fresh faces, players that have had outstanding seasons in the NCAA like Aurora Cordingley and Nicole Perroni.”
Sixes lacrosse features fewer players (6 v. 6), a smaller field, condensed game length, and a 30-second shot clock. The game is notably faster paced than other disciplines, and was developed by World Lacrosse to combine elements of the box and field games, and ultimately allow for more diversity in participation.
The team is coached by Scott Teeter, and supported by assistant coaches Jason Levesque, Allison Daley, and Tami Rayner, athletic therapist Claire Biafore, and team manager Mark Morissette.
The women’s competition will take place from July 12-16, the week following the men’s competition.
Canada, ranked second heading into the tournament, will face off against Great Britain on July 12 at 2:45 pm CDT. The women’s team will then take on Israel at 2:45 pm on July 13, and close out pool play against Haudenosaunee on July 14 at 12:45 pm.
Tickets are available now, and streaming information will be announced as it becomes available.
