Aug. 07, 2024

Jim Veltman - Excelsior and Rock Legend

Jim “Scoop” Veltman is one of the most respected players from the past 40 years. Veltman grew up in the Brampton Excelsiors organization. He played 12 years as a minor, 5 years at Junior A and several years of Senior A.

He had great success at both the amateur and professional levels. He played on MILL and NLL teams that won 8 Championships on 16 seasons. Veltman teams captured 4 Mann Cups and a World Championship to compliment his NLL crowns.

His contributions to these teams lead to MVP Awards in Junior A, Western Senior A and the NLL. His success has led to inductions into the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the NLL Hall of Fame.

Scoop has also coached at all levels including Minor, High School, Senior A and B, and internationally with the Czech National Team.

Veltman feels very strongly about recognition of the roots of the game as a gift from our Indigenous community. He has volunteered to help build lacrosse in native communities.

His number was recently retired by the Toronto Rock.
