Canada set to face Japan in Semi Finals after win over Italy

Aug. 21, 2024

With a 25-2 victory over Italy, Canada has secured their spot in the semi finals of the World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship.

Canada jumped out to an early start when Jami MacDonald scored two goals in the first minute of the game. She continues to play at an All World pace and lead Canada offensively. Canada continued kept the pedal down for the whole first half, Canada’s transition game was giving the Italians all sorts of issues, and Canada led 16-0 at half.

Although Italy was about to score two power play goals in the third quarter, it proved to be their only offence for the day as Canada shut the door after the two Italian goals.

The other notable player for Canada was Charlotte Hodgson, who had her best game so far of these World Championships with 4 goals and 1 assist.

Canada will now play Japan in the semi finals tomorrow at 7pm HKT. This will be the first official matchup between Canada and Japan in these games, although the two did compete in a scrimmage in preparation . Canada led the contest 7-6 before weather caused the match to end early. Japan secured their spot in the semi finals with a huge 11-6 win over England. This will be Canada’s toughest test to date.

The other semi final match includes two undefeated teams in USA and Australia.
