Men's Team takes care of England in Semi Finals

The men’s gold medal match at the World Lacrosse Box Championships will feature Canada and the USA.

Canada advanced to the final after defeating England 20-3 in the semifinals Friday at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The game started just over a minute into the game when Robert Church recorded his 11th goal of the tournament off a pass from Jeff Teat. Teat was involved on the next three goals-scoring one himself-to give Canada a four goal lead just over seven minutes into the game. Matt Gilray would get on the score sheet just before the end of the quarter to give the Canadians a 5-0 lead after the opening frame.

The second quarter is when England would get on the board from Jack Royer who managed to get two goals past starting goalie Dillion Ward, one of which was on the powerplay. Josh Byrne and Mitch de Snoo got in on the scoring to help extend the Canadian lead to 10-2 at halftime.

In the third, Church would get two more just 91 seconds apart to put the game out of reach and Dhane Smith would score two of his own in four minutes and two seconds time that iced the game for Canada.

The fourth quarter would see Byrne record his hat trick goal to finish with four goals and one assist. Other scoring came from Church who had five goals and two assists on the day and Smith and Shane Jackson each had hat tricks.

Ward was on his game, allowing just three goals on 22 shots to earn the win.

Canada will now look to win their sixth straight gold medal on Sunday at 4:00pm EST against the USA
