Lacrosse Canada Announces Newly Elected Board Members

Oshawa, ON - Lacrosse Canada is proud to announce the election of three outstanding individuals to its Board of Directors: Stephan Leblanc, Zach Currier, and Barbara Lockhart. Each of these new board members brings a unique skill set, vast experience, and a deep commitment to the growth and development of lacrosse across Canada. Together, they will help guide the organization in its mission to strengthen the sport, create opportunities for athletes, and engage with the broader lacrosse community. 

Additionally, Lacrosse Canada is pleased to announce the re-election of Matt Shearer. Matt’s leadership and continued dedication to lacrosse’s development on the international stage will be invaluable as Canada continues to strengthen its position in the global lacrosse community.

Stephan Leblanc

Stephan Leblanc is a former National Lacrosse League (NLL) player, coach, and long-time advocate for the growth of the sport. With experience playing for the Canadian Men’s National Indoor Team at the 2011 and 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC), and a 12-year career in the NLL, Stephan brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience across Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and the NCAA.

A father of two, Stephan is particularly passionate about making competitive lacrosse affordable and accessible for all. Outside of lacrosse, he holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and has worked as a Marketing and Sales consultant in the automotive industry. His expertise in leadership, marketing, and strategic planning will be invaluable as Lacrosse Canada continues its mission to expand the sport’s reach and impact.

Zach Currier

Zach Currier, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, is one of the top lacrosse players in Canada and an influential leader within the professional lacrosse community. A former standout at Princeton University, Currier was a first-team Inside Lacrosse Media All-American and a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection. He is entering his seventh NLL season and recently won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships in Utica, NY.

In addition to his playing career, Zach serves as the President of the NLL Players Association, where he works to advocate for the interests of players and ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future of professional lacrosse. His leadership on and off the field will help bring a player-centric perspective to the Lacrosse Canada board and support efforts to grow the sport across the country. "I am very honoured to be a member of the Lacrosse Canada board and am looking forward to seeing the continued growth of our sport in Canada for years to come!"

Barbara Lockhart

Barbara Lockhart joins Lacrosse Canada after an impressive career serving on the boards of Basketball Ontario, Kids Now, and OslerBrook Golf and Country Club, alongside a wealth of professional experience spanning media, events, family entertainment, and the not-for-profit sector. Currently, Barbara runs her own HR Advisory and Executive Search firm, SmartHire Human Capital Solutions, where she works with a number of Indigenous organizations in her client portfolio.

A lifelong athlete, coach, and administrator in multiple sports, Barbara has spent the past 15 years learning the lacrosse landscape alongside her two sons, one of whom is currently a freshman lacrosse player at Saint Joseph’s University. Her passion for the game of lacrosse, along with her professional expertise and strong network, will be instrumental in supporting Lacrosse Canada's efforts to serve athletes, coaches, officials, and the broader lacrosse community, including Canada’s First Peoples.
