SAINT JOHN, NB — The 2026 Founders Cup officially got underway Sunday in Saint John, New Brunswick, with three games opening the national championship tournament and setting the stage for a competitive week of Junior B Major lacrosse.
The opening game saw the Seneca War Chiefs take on Maverick Elite, with Seneca coming away with a 9–6 victory to begin the tournament with a win.
Seneca established an early advantage and maintained their lead through the remainder of the game, securing the first victory of the 2026 Founders Cup.
The host Saint John Rapids then took the floor against the Sackville Wolves in the afternoon matchup. The Wolves used a strong offensive performance to earn an 8–3 victory over the host Rapids.
The final game of Day 1 featured the Port Coquitlam Saints and Akwesasne Thunder in an evenly contested matchup. Akwesasne came away with a 10–7 victory to close out the opening day.
With three games now complete, the field has its first results on the board as teams begin their pursuit of the Founders Cup national championship.
The Founders Cup continues Monday in Saint John with another full slate of preliminary-round action, as teams look to build momentum and position themselves for the remainder of the tournament.
