Matthew Shearer Announced As New President Of Lacrosse Canada

Lacrosse Canada Board Member Matthew Shearer

Matt brings more then 25 years of senior leadership experience, highlighted by his tenure at Under Armour, where he initially launched and grew the brand’s Canadian business, expanded and lead operations into international markets across Latin America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and ultimately served as Senior Vice President for Under Armour in North America. This type of experience will be influential for the future of lacrosse in Canada to expand its reach, drive operational efficiency, strengthen its commercial partnerships, and enhance the visibility of the sport. Currently he is a coach and partner for CEO Coaching international where he works closely with CEO’s on leadership development, and growth strategies, in order to help these companies scale their businesses. These skills directly transfer to Lacrosse Canada’s programs and initiatives, helping the organization grow, build stronger partnerships, and support the game from grassroots to high performance.

Along with his business background, Matt also has strong connections within the lacrosse community. A former first round NLL draft pick in 1997, Shearer enjoyed an 11 year career, playing for 6 teams where he accumulating 378 points in 115 games. Most notably he was a part of the 2005 Toronto Rock team that took home the NLL Championship. The combination of business expertise and his lacrosse experience makes him an ideal fit as our new President.

For the past two years, he’s served on the Board of Directors for Lacrosse Canada, getting a close up look at how the organization works and what it takes to grow the sport. He’s worked with board members, staff, provincial partners, and others to help guide strategy and decision-making. That experience has given him the perspective and insight he needs to step into the President role and to lead our Board and Staff with a clear vision and a strong sense of what comes next for Canadian lacrosse.

“Lacrosse has shaped so much of who I am, and I’m deeply committed to giving back to a game that’s given me so much. As President, my goal is to build on the strong foundation already in place—working with our Board, staff, and partners to drive alignment, accountability, and growth across the sport, from the grassroots level to the world stage” said Shearer.

Matt Shearer takes over from Shawn Williams, who has done an incredible job leading Lacrosse Canada. Under Shawn’s guidance, the organization strengthened its governance, grew participation programs, and helped our national teams compete at the highest level. We’re grateful for his dedication and the strong foundation he’s left for the next chapter.

With his mix of business leadership, sport experience, and time on the board, Matt is in a great position to guide Lacrosse Canada forward. He’s looking forward to working with athletes, coaches, officials, and partners to keep growing the game, supporting high-performance programs, and making sure lacrosse thrives at every level across the country.
