Lacrosse Canada Introduces Sixes Pilot Program for Community Development Coaches

Oshawa, ON — Lacrosse Canada is excited to announce the launch of its Sixes Pilot Program at the Community Development level. This new initiative will introduce the Sixes discipline into the coaching pathway, with the aim of integrating it into the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) once feedback from the pilot program is collected.

Community Development serves as the first step in becoming a trained coach in the NCCP, and this certification will be required for coaches involved in Sixes programming across Canada.

The Pilot Program training will cost $60 and include 3 hours of Sixes-specific content, including video analysis on all four aspects of the game: offense, defense, transition, and ride. Each session will be capped at 25 participants, ensuring a collaborative environment where coaches can discuss possible modifications to Sixes at all levels of the sport, alongside suggestions from Lacrosse Canada. Participants will also receive an overview of the rules, high-level content, and recommendations discussed during the session.

For new coaches who have not completed a Community Development course in another discipline, an NCCP Core Session will be required prior to participation.

This pilot program is a key step toward growing the Sixes format within Canada’s coaching community, and Lacrosse Canada is looking forward to gathering feedback and expanding this initiative moving forward.
